Civil War: Battlefield & Homefront
Tues-Sat 9 am-5 pm, Sun 12-5 pm
Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, Fremont
The year 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the start of America's Civil War. On the exact date that the first Confederate shots were fired on Fort Sumter - the act that marked the war's start - the Hayes Presidential Center opens Civil War: Battlefield & Homefront. The exhibit interprets the war years using the letters of Northwest Ohio residents who served in the war and those who stayed behind. Much has been written about the lives of soldiers who served in the war, but the lives of those back at home is virtually unexplored.

Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, Fremont
Children ages 3-10 are invited to re-live a White House tradition started in 1878 by President Rutherford B. Hayes. Simply boil and color your own eggs (three in number) as your entry fee to a variety of "rolling" contests on the lawn in front of the home. Prizes awarded in four age groups. Bring a decorated egg to enter in the optional egg-decorating contest - the more Victorian the design the better. Free balloons, admission passes and visits with the Easter Bunny!
