Hello and welcome to The Captain’s Lodge! The story of this beautiful lodge
started in the 1850’s when it was first built. Union officers then used our
home when Johnson’s Island (just across the street) was used as a prisoner of
war camp during the Civil War. Lincoln was president when this house first
took shape and now after 150 years my wife Beth, and I have turned it into
what we feel is some of the nicest lodging in the area.
A few years ago a local builder, and friend of ours, took this tired old relic
and made it new in every way, using only the best materials and ideas. Now
this 5000 square foot lodge that is situated on nearly 3 acres, boasting many
wonderful old trees, an orchard, grape arbor and pond shines like it never
has.
Both Beth and I have traveled the world extensively. We’ve stayed in a vast
array of lodging from tents to penthouses. We took what we liked best and
created a lodge we are very proud of.

have said you don’t need lodging to be this nice. We say this is exactly what
you deserve. Let me give you now a list of additional businesses and services
that are offered in conjunction with The Captain’s Lodge. We truly believe in
one stop shopping.
1. Corporate Outings – This is the place to bring your valued customers and
loyal employees. We have had outings here in excess of 100 people. For your
convenience we coordinate catered meals ranging from snacks to fish fry’s or a
pig roast, including assorted beverages, big top tents with seating
accommodations, and we can even book your transportation such as buses or
vans. Fishing trips can also be incorporated into your outing.
2. Ooh the fishing!! Beth and I own two charter fishing services. We have 5
boats and some of the most knowledgeable captains on the lake. Our captain’s
(myself included) have 112 years experience on Lake Erie. We have great
fishing and lodging packages for just a few fisherman, up to corporate outings
and tournaments for over 100 . One call to us and we can provide for all your
needs. Fishing licenses can be purchased right at our docks, trips can be
upgraded to include, food, beverages and drinks. Our charters provide rods,
reels, lures, bait and ice. We can even clean your fish while you wait! We
book Walleye, Small Mouth Bass and Perch fishing trips. Our charters start in
April and go through Nov./Dec., depending on the weather. If you enjoy the
cold weather Ice fishing is available when the lake freezes.
3. Islands of wine. The Islands of Lake Erie are also known for their
wineries. We take clients out to three separate islands for wine tasting.
Trips include a variety of local wines, and three stops at three separate
islands. Trips can be full or half day excursions. Leave your cell phones and
worries at the dock to enjoy a day on Lake Erie discovering beautiful islands
and wonderful local wines.
4. If you need a day away we offer boat service to and from Put In Bay. These
trips include a captain, transportation, dockage and snacks and drinks.
5. Duck Hunting – If you haven’t had enough fun through the summer and fall we
offer duck hunting trips. We offer trips for two, three and four hunters. Boat
and guide, breakfast served on the water and well trained dogs. Package trips
including hunting and lodging are available.
